Tiramisu is a type of Italian cake and dessert. It involves dipping pieces of sponge cake in coffee and layering a liqueur flavoured with whipped cream, egg yolks, mascarpone cheese and cocoa on top.
Ingredients of Tiramisu Cake
- 8-10 sponge cake pieces
- 300 g mascarpone cheese (optional) cream cheese
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 cup freshly whipped cream
- 200 grams icing sugar
- 300 grams (optional) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup espresso or fast brewed coffee
- 1 tbsp sweet rum
- 1 tbsp sugar
For Mascarpone Cheese:
- 1 liter fresh cream
- 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
To make mascarpone cheese, mix vinegar or lemon juice in fresh cream. Keep heating it till the cream becomes thick. After this, hang it in a muslin cloth for two days. Now to make the tiramisu, in a large bowl put the egg yolks. Then add icing sugar and beat it well. Add the prepared mascarpone cheese on top and mix and keep aside for five minutes.
Then add whipped cream to it. In another bowl, combine the sweetened rum, sugar and espresso coffee. Keep it on the side. Now place the pieces of sponge cake in a vessel. Soak them in the coffee mixture. Apply mascarpone mixture on top and apply the second layer of sponge cake. Soak again in the coffee mixture.
Apply a layer of mascarpone cheese again. Dust the cocoa powder on top and keep it in the fridge for about half an hour. Serve the tiramisu chilled.
